Does anybody use supplements for bipolar disorder?

i've been using supplements for last few months and they seem to work most of the time, but sometimes not all. i get them from an alternative medicine dr.
anyone have this same experience?
thanks-

i stick to the Gold Standard Lithium. It has been around for centuries as they used to send women off to Lithium Baths to calm them during PMS. It was approved in 1970 by the FDA as the forst mood stabalizer.
i'm not big on experimental things because I like to know that what I am taking is tried and true before I become someone's lab rat. If nothing is working for you, try these things out. If supplements are making you feel stable and good about your functioning, go for it.

I also take Klonopin everyday and have for 2 years. This was originally to help me sleep but I got an increaded dosage so I can take it during the day when my mood changes rapidly and poorly. I can just check out and not give a crap. I also tale Melatonin for sleep. It is a wonderful supplement. It is the only thing that has ever gotten me to sleep well.

If you have had multiple episodes, you know by now what it feels like when they are comming on. If the supplements prove to be faulty, you will be the first to know and you go to doctor and get whatever worked the best before.

It sucks to try and manage Bioplar Disorder as it is no fun for you. i often feel like I'm taking all this stuff for everyone else's sake and I am not personally benefiting at all. then I remember the times i was taken by ambulance in restraints to the mental ward of the local hospital. Keep trying. something is bound to be a happy median at best.

i'm sorry my friend but what you are doing is stupid and dangerous.

supplements are okay for things like depression
but not for uppers like what you go through in bipolar disorder
you should go to a psychiatrist who actually knows how to help
you are taking this into your own hands and you are putting
yourself in a dangerous position.

one of my uncles refused to take mood stabilizers and tried to take some omega 3 stuff and he commited suicide a few years back.....so i wouldn't take a chance.

alt medicine docs don't know anything about psychological needs....supplements do not help the uppers of your disorder. they help the lowers, buut since you said sometimes not at all....then like i said, it's stupid and you need to see a real doctor. i'm not trying to be mean, but i am a severe manic..i do understand not wanting to be taking the side effects and whatnot, but not all meds have bad effects...lamictal [what i take] doesn't give me barely any side effects to be honest. i do have some issues time to time, b ut it's NOTHING like it was a year ago. and since you said sometimes it doesnt help at all...then honestly, that's saying you need something mroe than just some supplements.

My friend uses a nutriental supplement tunguska blast. www.cretronics.tunguskablast.com

No, I've never used anything OTC for my bipolar...I didnt even know that sort of thing even existed.I'm curious what your alternative medicine doc suggests you to take?? ......are you against seeing a psych doc ? I'm on lamictal, geodon, klonopin and trazadone for sleep.

Sorry I'm not any help....

No, I against it as well. There a lot of street people who don't know what they are really talking about.
