Can anyone explain the medical model and social model of care in relaiton to bipolar disorder? The medical model could include admission to hospital and possible detention under the mental health act. Medication would be an option, using Lithium or semi-sodium valporate (Depakote) Counselling using CBT or PSI could be used whilst in the hospital and in the community. Social care would look at the extended family needs supporting the family etc. You could look at relapse prevention using prodromal signs and symptoms, also the use of advance directives is popular these days Source(s): 30 years as a specialist practitioner in comunity mental health Nice homework question. BCL Agree. Do your own homework. I give you a hint though... Get Pilgrim & Rogers out of the library. Its THE key text. http://www.amazon.co.uk/sociology-mental... Qualified Mental Health Social Worker (joint honours degree in psychology & sociology) OK - the medical model deals with medicines prescribed, doctors diagnoses, hospital treatments. The social model looks at other aspects of the patient - family, friends and any other networks of support. A little additional information goes a long way. |
