How do I know when to go to the doctor to see if I have bipolar disorder? |
I FEEL I HAVE HAD BIPOLAR OR DEPRESSION FOR MANY MANY YEARS, BUT NEVER THOUGHT TO HAVE MYSELF EVALUATED UNTIL RECENTLY. ONE OF MY MOTHERS FRIENDS THINKS MY MOTHER HAS IT, AND SO DO I, BUT I COULDN'T DARE APPROACH THE SUBJECT WITH HER. WHAT ARE SOME SURE SIGNS OF BIPOLAR AND AT WHAT POINT SHOULD I GO TO THE DOCTOR? OK honey, I'm a licensed therapist. This is what you need to do. I don't know how old you are but, there should be someone you can talk to at your school, try your school guidance counselor, if your in college there should be free resources there for you or go to your regular doctor and they can refer you to someone. Please get help.Signs can be but are not limited to: 1)rapid mood swings 2)states of severe depression 3)suicidal thoughts 4)bouts of extreme anger or paranoia 5)feelings of euphoria so strong one may feel invincible, this can lead to dangerous risk taking(drug use, promiscuity, extreme sports) If you feel like this sounds familiar you need to see someone however, if you are experiencing any kind of depression please seek help. Go to the doctor immediately. The sooner you see the doctor, the sooner you can be treated. No point putting it off. Best wishes. Go right now. Tell him exactly what you just said here. He will ask you questions and determine what you need to do next. if you get happy then sad all of a sudden, the happy again, just as fast as you got sad, and that cycle keeps on going on, you may have bipolar disorder The fact that you wonder means you need to go to the doctor and find out When you feel that your symptoms are becoming unmanageable. The doctor can diagnose you and prescribe medication to regulate your moods. If you're against taking medication (some people are), you could see a psychologist to discuss what you're experiencing. It's worth it. If you want to get on some pills, then go to a doctor. People live with it all the time with no pills (me). A sure sign is, temperment changes for no apparent reason, a feeling of sheer happiness, a feeling of complete despair. Highs and Lows. |
