Does Bipolar disorder cause extreme mania and racing thoughts?

I am diagnosed bipolar and my thoughts constantly race. When I am watching tv with friends I am not even paying attention I am just thinking to my self. Often my thoughts are so clouded with images and music to the point where i am completely lost in my own thoughts and am seeing this "image" or hearing this music as if it were live. it is not at all like hallucinating, it is like i am out of touch with reality. My thoughts are racing so quickly it has become almost to much to handle. I can't work a job or do school because I am lost in my thoughts all the time. I can still function but I am an extremely eccentric character and have a terrible time mainting good relationships with friends or family. I have been on medication for this since I was 13, every anti-depressant and anti-psychotic you can dream of I have taken. Currently I am on Lamictal and Busprosprine and it isnt doing anything. Is there any hope for me to have a productive life? This has gone down hill for roughly 11 years

No treament has helped. I have had 5 stays in the hospital over the course of 5 years (i am 18 now.) All of my doctors have given up on me. My last doctor was a harvard graduate and couldnt figure out whats going on with me and told me he didnt know if he was able to help any further. My thoughts go non stop, I easily shift from a high to a low in moments, I have moments of violent rage and constantly have thoughts or visions of me fighting someone, i have intense vision about music and images like movie clips or something i dont even ******* know what to call it. I have asked every doctor in the world for help and nothing is working. Maybe someone on this yahoo **** can shed a little light for me.

Bipolar disorder does cause extreme mania and racing thoughts, yes, It can alternate between manic episodes and depressive episodes. Extreme manic episodes can also lead to hallucinations. The meds you are on are obviously not working for you at all. I have a friend who has bipolar disorder and she went through a bad stage of it, and now the doctor has changed the medication she at least has some periods of normal mood inbetween and the mania and depression is not so heightened. You do need to go back to the doctor and ask him to try a different medication...

These are not Bi-Polar symptoms. These could be a side effect of your meds or a more serious problem. Talk to your doctor SOON. Manic depression could explain the mania but not the hallucination-like symptoms.

you/ your doctor will jsut have to fing the right mix of drugs.. many people with the disorder it may take years and many trial and error to find the right ones...
but all the things you are talking about are pretty typical of bipolar/ schizophrenia

some one who is very close to me has schizo- effective disorder and he is now in his 3rd year in college and if he didnt tell you he had problems no one would know any differnet
but from the time he was about 4 or 5 till he was like 19 or 20 he had nothing but problems and stuff
