Anyone with bipolar disorder only ever experienced the highly irritable, rage/anger side of mania?

without the euphoric feeling.

Yes. I've had it for at least 8 years now and the longer I have it the worst it gets. I genuinely can't do anything about it when it happens and it can be very intense anger/rage. I personally find it both physically and emotional draining as I will have an outburst that will be so bad I can almost feel my brain is about to 'pop'. This faze is usually followed by depression and suicidalness. I am current hitting the anger/rage part and the depression wont be long behind. I'm rapid cycling as well so I get this quite a lot - such fun!

Thanks for best answer and your comments -much appreciated! Report It

For about 2 and 1/2 years I've had the irritable side in both mania and depression. I was cycling back and forth for 2 and 1/2 years till I got on the right medication. Before I would be yelling at my mom constantly, have crying episodes, have thoughts of hurting/harming myself, etc. Now that I'm on the right medication, I've gotten a lot more stable.

yes I am bi-polar and I have felt this way, I took anger management classes to better understand,, just remember when u feel this way you can't think clearly. You may need your meds adjusted, and if you are having problems where u live, or with someone, talk to a friend and a counselor, remember it is part of the illness, and the illness does not define who you are, ormake u a bad person, it is like being a diabetic, u have to take insulin, also pin point why u are angry, and try to reason it out in ur mind, or with a friend, But don't fight, you sure don't want to go to jail, I did, and it is awful.. I am sorry u are having this problem, I hope u get good advice here,

Yes, .my husband told me he was going to play poker, and I didnt want him to leave...so I was very anxious...closed my fists like I just wanted to punch the hell out of anything...but I couldn't. So I popped some pills and pretended everything was okay. I could never let my husband see me in a fit of rage. My irritability is so bad that xanax and clonipin doesnt help. THey have me on seroquel now...we will see what happens with that.

yes...not fun! sometimes my joyous mania will lead into the irritable rageful kind...its pure anger and confusion from there on...meds and therapy helps...but sometimes you just cant help yourself

Yes, and it drives me CRAZY. It is so hard to explain to people who havent experienced it!
