Bipolar disorder and pregnancy?

How you manage your bipolar disorder鈥檚 episodes with pregnancy? I have Bipolar I and I don鈥檛 take any meds

I already have a psycological therapy

For me it comes with alot of patience from my fiance. He knows about my disorder and that when I got pregnant my meds would have to stop. We take it one day at a time and my family is a huge support. So far everything has been really great though. I have only had a couple "episodes" since I got pregnant. It is better this time than the first time I was pregnant but I think that may have alot to do with my support system this time around. :) GOOD LUCK! and remember, just take it one day at a time and don't overwhelm yourself. :)

My relative chose not to have children because of bipolar. However, my recommendation is based on what helps her. Make sure that you get a lot of light since that seems to help with the depression. Pay attention to the foods you eat or additives. My relative discovered garlic made her very witchy although she is not allergic to it. Figure out your triggers for the manic portion - for my relative, it is increasing stress and clutter in her home. Granted, your hormones are causing the problem in the first place, but you can reduce the chances of having episodes.

discuss this with your OB and your psychiatrist. if for some reason you do not have a current psyciatrist, get one asap. this is a must since your hormones will create all sorts of mood swings.. make sure you have a good repore with both doc's. you want a healthy baby and so do your doc's.

i would sugest scheduling regular appointments with a theropist. And always having some one arround who understands you and can be supportive of you and you can talk to them. And just keep reminding yourself that your pregnant and you are just really moody.

Good luck.

that's a start if you have therapy already.
