Bipolar/Anxiety Disorder and prozac?

Anyone bipolar w/anxiety problems take prozac? How'd it go? I also take Klonopin.

Hi Jane,

You're on a good set of medications although I do not know about Klonopin it must be both stabilizing your mood and functioning as an anti-psychotic to either prevent a future psychotic episode or to bring current symptoms into remission. You have to get to a point of psychological wellness before you can take control of your own mental health. You did not mention Klonopin so I'm believing its o.k. The prozac is for the anxiety and /or depression. You also did not mention whether you and your Dr. are trying to control Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety or acute anxiety with associated Phobia of some kind. So basically, though I'm no an M.D., you're experiencing stabilization in your mood and thinking. Keep on with it and continue being an active not passive patient/client. (Research your current condition).

I've been treated with Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc. None of those kept me fully awake and I was doing a Post-graduate degree and feeling sluggish most of the mornings and so without waiting longer than 2-3 weeks to adjust I changed to Cipram under Dr.'s supervision. As you may already realize, different people with some similar types of symptoms may vary somewhat in their coctail of meds for a number of reasons. Cipramil has been great for me and I make great strides in acting and thinking positively every day which is the process which accompanies meds, and which, you may already know.

If you find Prozac comfortable good, work with it. Find a dose that you can function comfortably and happily with, & talk to you're Dr. about your progress; if not, find something else or let him/her recommend something else. Take this approach with his/her help/supervision for as long as it takes. Stay on your meds.

Good luck, the journey continues & healing takes time. Always remain optimistic, and God's speed.

Prozac had no effect on me, made my wife suicidal. Avoid it if you can.
I've been on Prosac for many years......not for bi polar tho. For me it's been working great. Konopin is good too but tends to make me sleepy. I usually take my prosac at night because if I take it in the AM then I usually don't feel myself.
my daughter. the Prozac is helping...but it takes at least a month to kick in. i USED to suffer from both (i no longer do), the only thing that helped me was Prozac....but a very high dosage...120 milligrams daily. i don't like to mix drugs...but hey, whatever works...good luck!
I am bi-polar but i take seraquel and lithium now i think though ive been on about every drug out there at one time or another and prozac did not work for me at all. Everybody is different thought so help it helps you.
some people become kind of mentally hyperactive when they take both of these medications, so I would think it could intensify the mania aspect
