Do you actually enjoy having Bipolar Disorder?

Thank you All very much for your interesting answers.

My boyfriend has it and is really creative but can't let it out. He's an amazing artist and plays the piano beautifully but finds it hard to do these things and get motivated. He's more in touch with himself than anyone I know and he likes that part of it but the highs and lows are draining and it makes relationships very hard. Many people don't understand it but lots of people live with it like any other disorder or health problem.

yeah it can be fun at times :)
there was a really interesting documentary a year or two ago about bipolar on bbc by stephen fry. one thing some of the people said was that if there was a cure for bipolar, they wouldnt take it, because, even though the lows were so bad, they loved the highs.
i just thought that was interesting.

Hell no, but I think anyone who hits middle age with this disorder says the same. The highs are less frequent. They often are mixed with depression which can be considerably worse than a horrible depression. There is more depresssion. You know the meds are taking their toll on your organs. You know you've taken a lot of different meds and there are few if any left that will work if you can no longer take the ones you're on. You know what it is to be stable, want to always be stable, fear not being stable...... and dread the day when the pills no longer work and your left crazy until dead. It's a different perspective than when young.

I once saw a document that Stephen Fry did (he is bipolar) and asked sufferers if they could choose whether to have or not have bipolar disorder what they would choose... only one person (out of about 5 i think) said she would choose not to have bipolar disorder.

One person who said they would choose to have it if he could, said something like... if I wasn't bipolar then I wouldn't be able to talk to angels.

My step dad is bipolar and he never laughs more or seems to have more fun than when he's up, but I've never asked him whether he enjoys it or not. Obv it's worrying for his friends and family, as he refuses treatment but when he's up he always says he doesn't have a problem... that it's us who have the problem :)!!

Edit... i watched the same program as claire (above me) :)

Almost, sometimes. Lately I'd give anything for it to go away, but I'm in a deep depression. A while ago, when I was more stable I said I wouldn't trade it, but now I can't recall why. I don't get many happy highs. I mostly get agitated and irritable. However, being bipolar has made me who I am and I used to think that was a good thing.

dont be angry but you asked stupid question*no offense*
if you enjoy having knife in your eyes then yu would be enjoying depression and irritable relations ,,so what do you think the answer will be??
this is a pain ,,like any pain and even worse cause people accuse you and accuse yoru family ..

No because I hate not knowing what mood I'm going to wake up in and what trouble I may get myself into. While the highs are great at the time, the lows are even worse than regular depression because the highs make the lows worse by comparison.

No, when you just go on a low for no reason and you get soooooo depressed you wanna jump out a window its not great.
yes, when you are on a high its the best feeling in the world but people get peeved when you are majorly high and they are not
overall i dont think i do....

Man that is a hell of a disorder. One of my ex-girlfriends has it. One minute she'd act abnormally happy like she was strung out on adderall then the next she'd be locking herself in the bathroom while crying and trying to slit her wrists with a razor.

Yes, But mostly no. Its unbearable and people have no Idea what its like, at the same time its nice to know I'm the most creative person in the room.

I Love The Highs, Hate The Lows.
But I Also Like Being Able To Blame It For Stuff, It's Helpfull To Know Why You Feel LIke That.
Hope This Helped

sometimes i really love it, but other times i get really low.

Its pure and utter hell

haha this is a funny question. well im unmedicated cuz i hate pills.

****** at times so why the hell not x

yes, no, yes, no ,yes, no, umm maybe.
