My daughter was just diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD are there any no drug treatments? |
I worry about what I will be putting into her system and I don't want to change the person she is and I am afraid drugs will turn her into a zombie or someone I don't know. I am not famillar with all the treatments of these disorders and want only the best for her. She is only 11. I have PTS-D, and was misdiagnosed with bipolar. If she truly has bipolar there are many medications that can be helpful. Lithium, Abilify, Zyprexa and Depakote are some of the medications that may be prescribed. About 40% of those with bipolar do not respond to medication. My strong suggestion would be that you avoid antipsychotics like Zyprexa and Abilify. I was diagnosed with PTSD at age 8 and went through lots of counseling so start with that, as for her bipolar it depends on the level of her bipolar some people have it mildly other have it majorly. And if you do find the right combination of medications she won't be turned into a zombie but due to her young age and the fact that she is still growing i would avoid medication. Have her Doc right a note to the school make sure the principal/vice principal, office secretary and teacher(s) have copies so they are aware incase she has a manic attack at school Please listen. A child can be bipolar.. and the medication can save her life. Literally. I wish you could talk to MY daughter, who was diagnosed, then refused meds by other doctors who failed to listen to her, when she SAID she needed them. Hum yes you have good reason to be concerned about drugs they are not so nice having been orininally created in Nazi germany time when the scientists were inventing stuff best treatment is a mix of medication and therapy.. but if you want to try intense therapy before the medication that could be an option.. talk to her doctor and tell him you want to help your daughter but that you are really concerned about the medications and ask him for a suggestion... my friend has bipolar and the best thing for her is medication.. she didn't turn into a "zombie" but she is much older than 11 your worry is natural, but u have to put her on drugs because the side effects of the drugs are negligible compared to what ur daughter can go thru if she has an episode without drugs. so, this is a choice of the lesser of two evils...now, drugs are available with minimu side effects which have to be chosen acc to her type of bipolar. please ask the dr u consult to give u more info on the drug choices u can have for u daughter. oh, thats nothing! Did a psychologist or therapist diagnose her with these? If so, they should do a full evaluation to determine what is the best course of action for her treatment. You should be very proactive and make sure you get all the facts before you let them do any kind of treatment. Good luck1 Maybe there are but I don麓t know... a friend of mine had this problem and she was getting a treatment by drugs... yes |
