I have Bipolar Disorder & PTSD, so where are my friends when I need them the most? |
I got my diagnosis & they're gone. Only true friends stick it out side by side. How true we'er they to begin with???I run my life as I see fit,not as others see fit. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, manageable nowadays thankfully. As for friends, what friends? they were obviously insincere friends or what we call fair weather friends. Anyway, time to move on and find true friends, who don't care what condition you have, very ignorant on their part, you are better off without them, and don't worry either as you know, we all have good days and some really bad days, always remember the good days will come when you hit rock bottom. If you are a christian then a good church with good fellowship as they don't give a hoot whats wrong with ya. Good luck I don't think happiness is the emotion people feel when someone tells them, "I was just diagnosed as bipolar and PTSD". They are more likely to be traumatized and fear that you will expect a level of caring and attention that they can't or don't wish to provide. It makes you into the "patient" rather than their friend. Not sure why you told them. All you had to do was get your treatment, improve, and behave more normally around them. Not everyone handles talking about mental disorders as well as others. It could be very hard for them to talk about. Certainly it really goes to show what kind of friends they really are. people are scared of what they dont understand you really need to explain to them the minor details of your illness and thats the negatives and the positives and that you are still the same person but in more control than before and after you do your best to stay friends with them and it doesnt work you must move on to people who wont judge you for your illness but your true self and your good points I went through that when I got my first class A felony...everybody scattered out only one person stayed tight with me(another felon)....I earned mine by destroying a pub & 3 guys Whom beat the hell out of another ex-friend and attempted to rape my ex-gf,in a rear room. I won the fight, lost the court case. The perverts dads were cops. that was Dec.'85.**edit*this is off key from subject but "about" friends... Not Bipolar but PTSD I take : morphin 100mg 2x. propranolol 40mg 2x. seroquel 50mg 1x. lorazepam 1mg 6x per day. I get bad when off meds. I keep a tight circle of friends, true to the death friends IRL. If you wish to, email me and I'll flip you my phone#,just put a restricted call so I do not have your number but you can have mine.I'm in USA. People sometimes get scared of mental illnesses. They may fear you would be a danger to them. I know a guy with bipolar and sometimes he gets so angry that it scares people. I don't know the full story. Maybe they are just shocked and are staying away as they don't know what to say. Have you tried contacting them? How long ago did you find out? hi....your friends may be uneducated and scared or unsure now you have been diagnosed...unfortunately we all think our friends will always be there for us no matter what!!! truth is real ones will..humans are funny creatures...different types of people their attitude and how they handle things throw them a curve ball every now and then...thats why we all handle things differently my friend...you have done nothing wrong...might have got used to what you are like...now youre getting treatment means they need to understand it...concentrate on yourself..if they are truly your friends...they will stand by you Hi my brother has depression and PTSD, from serving in East Timor with the Australian Army, and I have depression, you will find that the people you call friends will not visit you or contact you as often, it is not what you have done or said, and it is not because they like you any less than they did before it is for basic reasons 1, people think I should phone so and so but last time she said she was unwell, 2, I don't want to intrude she is not feeling well, I should phone and invite so and so but last time she found it to stessful, No they are not being mean to you, not on purpose anyway, but you have to make the effort to phone them invite them around of dinner or lunch. people just are not prepared to deal with people in our society with disabilities, we do not teach it, it is the same with death, it is not spoken about and than when it happens people do not know how to cope with it, try the website "beyondblue" to is helpful it is an Australian site, but it does not matter if you are not in Australia have a look anyway. also keep phoning and visiting your old friends, even if you just pop in for a cup of tea I am sure they would like to see how you have improved, |
