Epilim Chrono for bipolar disorder?

I have been diagnosed as bipolar (although a friend disagrees with both the psychiatrists diagnosis). I am on Seroquel (quetiapine) and they have now added Eplim Chrono as a mood stabiliser (Seroquel is making me very aggressive, have fights and become withdrawn). The packet says these are to treat epilepsy, any idea why they would be prescribed? And does seroquel make anyone else aggressive?

With one or two exceptions, medications that are anti-epileptic are also mood stabilizers. So most of the medications out there used to treat epilepsy - lamotrigine, tegretol, topamax etc, are also useful for stabilizing moods in bipolar disorder. Not all of course. Lithium, for example, is a very potent mood stabilizer that does nothing for epilepsy. Eplim Chrono is one of the valproate drugs - which is one of the most commonly used and oldest of bipolar medications.

Seroquel causing aggression is quite unusual. It could mean you're at too low a dosage. I really don't like seeing bipolar treated with AAP-type drugs as frist line - there's far better medications out there that don't have the problems they do.
