Didn't understand which was BPD- the bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder?Borderline personality disorder is usually a disorder that someone gets when they didn't have a very good childhood. It is the way a person thinks. They can basically be friends with anyone, and fit in. A person with Borderline personility disorder usually doesn't have the same type of conscience that a person who does not and may not even understand why someone is mad at them after they have done something(like sleep with their friends partner). They usually live a high risk lifestyle adn rotate friends pretty frequently. The best treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy.
Bipolar Disorder has a few different types.
Type 1 - you become manic. You are unable to control your spending and you are unable to control your sexuality. your extremely uninhibited. You might think that you are invincible(like you could fly), you might think you are extremely close to God, or Jesus. You could have hallucinations. You are easy to anger, but also easy to distract. You cannot hold a straight thought, you might have a flood of ideas. You talk incessantly and do not need sleep. After the the mania ends you would go through a bout of depression which would be at least double the time of you mania(mania lasted a month, the depression would last at least 2 months) Medication is need to treat the mania. The sysmptom of Mania can come on at anytime.
Type 2 - You become Hypo-mainc. Spending money freely without thinking of consequences. Extremely uninhibited, and very sexual. Incessent talking and floods of ideas. moods changing frequently. easy to agitate. Little or no sleep. The depression last double the period of hypo-mania. SOme would say medication is needed, but behavioral cognitive therapy works just as well and in the long run is better for you. it is also cyclical. for ex. every summer you might go hypomanic and every fall winter, you might get depressed
Rapid -cycler - You might go from mania to hypo-maina to depression all in one week or all in one day. Harder to treat with medication, so behavioral cognitive therapy is suggested.
Unipolar - you are only your normal self or depressed. Behavioral or cognitive therapy is best. Your welcome, hope it was helpful! Report Abuse
BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) is addressed in section 15, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris Be aware that, because of their upbringing, people suffering from BPD tend to see things in terms of black and white, rather than shades of grey, and often idealise, then devalue, in relationships. They also tend to have a great fear of abandonment, and sometimes go to extreme lengths to prevent it. A tendency to abuse alcohol and/or drugs, or high risk activities may be present. ~~~
See section 10, on bipolar disorder, at ezy build, below, and take the quiz, if unsure, and if the results are positive, ensure you get an expert diagnosis from a mental health professional, not doctors, who are much better dealing with physical ailments, and don't diagnose complex disorders like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder often enough to develop any real expertise.
Bipolar disorder usually involves major mood swings, which occur without apparent cause, and often over many months, or a matter of years, rather than days, as with most people (unless rapid cycling). I'd take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements in the winter months, (or, as probably a better alternative to the 2 cod liver oil supplements: 1 teaspoonful of cod liver oil, with a little butter, to ensure its use; I take mine on sourdough rye bread, or toast, covered with fishpaste, and pepper, to mask the strong taste). Those people who receive adequate exposure to sunlight, daily, won't need the vitamin D from cod liver oil, but many people, particularly those in latitudes far from the equator, find this difficult, to achieve. More about this on page R, in section 2.
If you decide to use allopathy, (modern Western medicine) I recommend trying Lithium Carbonate, or Lithium Citrate. (regular tests are necessary, for these) before trying the other mood stabilisers, but if you aren't good at taking medications regularly, drinking adequate water, and keeping up your salt intake, something else, such as Lamictal, or Depakote, may suit you better. Check out "lithium" at http://www.drugs.com/, and http://crazymeds.us/ and always research medications first, there, and at http://www.rxlist.com/ & http://www.askapatient.com/ (read, and keep the labels/information sheets) so you will be aware of the risks, and on the lookout for side effects. Personally, if I wasn't bipolar type 1, and didn't experience hallucinations, or serious delusional states, I know I'd first try the orthomolecular, and Omega 3 fish oil supplements, vitamins, minerals; a herbal remedy, and a mostly raw food diet, for several months. Note: St. John's wort, and also antidepressants, may cause mania, or hypomania, in people with bipolar disorder. I'd aso eat in accordance with my "nutritional type". Enter that term in the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com/
If not considerably improved, after a maximum of 6 months trial period, consult your primary mental health care provider: you may be one of those who need medications to prevent this serious disorder from worsening. If you have bipolar type 1, an antipsychotic medication will probably be required. Everyone should take the Omega 3 supplements, or preferably "krill oil" for its other health benefits: use the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com/ (also enter "diabetes; type 2") Some people refuse medication, using supplements, and a selective, mostly raw food diet (I do not recommended trying this, if bipolar 1, unless you aren't troubled by hallucinations, or delusional states). There are various types, and degrees of severity with bipolar disorder, and although many people with the milder versions can get by without medication, using the alternative treatments, those whose disorder in more serious, really would benefit from taking it. |
