Is it possible I have Bipolar disorder? Especially when I may have Tourette's...?

Due to the fact I had an uncle with severe tourette's, and the fact that I may have a minor form of it, is there a possibility I have Bipolar disorder?
Over the past year, I've gone through weeks of depression, and phases that made me feel like I'm almost in a kind of high (sometimes things acutally seem a bit surreal) and I feel like nothing in life could go wrong and I'm just a happy-go luck person who feels like they could take on the world.

During the depression times, I lost a lot of weight (about 10 pounds) and I felt like I wouldn't mind being hit by a truck or something. Then I went through happy phases a while after the depression, and I felt like life was all joy and happiness.

And sometimes between the two extremes, I'm irritable and very grouchy, to the point where my friends notice (and get rather irritated at me). During these times I sometimes got almost violent urges and I would get extremely mad. The littlest things would make me really mad (like if someone didn't get a concept in class, or if my friends did something without me) and I would get into lots of fight with my mom and friends. I was always mad during this period and felt like sleeping the days off, spending my spare time sleeping so I wouldn't have to think too much about the things that irritated me.

Could this possibly be the bipolar disorder that sometimes accompanies tourette's?

Hello, It sounds exactly like me and I have both tourettes and bipolar disorder. I am on medications for both and I can't tell you how much better my life is. I still get a little down at times but nothing like the ups and downs of being bipolar. I actually feel like a person again. Please see a doctor about your symptoms and see what can be done for you. :)

they are unrelated. tourettes is a genetic disorder. bipolar is mental. i would suggest seeing a good hypnotherapist/psychologist. They will definitely help you with behavioral issues.

Anything is possible, hon, but i wouldn't count on people here at Yahoo Answers to diagnose me, or you

Your best bet is to talk with your family doctor. Write down anything of concern before you go, so you won't forget anything. If he feels you need a referral, you will get one, i'm sure.

Everyone on earth has symptoms of mental illness at one time or the other, but it does not always mean we have one. I hpe you don't!

I have bipolar disorder and i wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I am no professional - but you DEFINITELY have bipolar. I have had it for 13 years - since I left school.
I get so irritated, even things my mom does (and if ever there was an angel on earth it's her) irritates me immensely. I get aggressive for no apparent reason, I take sleeping tabs to sleep off my depression times so as not to feel it or have to experience this void, and chaos in my head.
During normal times (which are very rare), I feel I can do anything and that nothing is not within my reach.
It sounds like your IQ is also a bit above average - we tend to get bipolar easier. Difference between Depression and Bipolar, is that Bipolar is genetic (hereditary) and Bipolar is by onset of circumstances.

You need medication. GOOD NEWS IS: Bipolar medication (like Lamictin, Seroquel, anti-depressants - combination of all 3 types) is indicated for conditions like anorexia, shizophrenia and Tourettes as well. So you can sort out both at once.

Good luck!

YOU JUST DIAGNOSED YOURSELF_ IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE BIPOLAR.

you are showing classic signs. plz go to the doc. for an opinion and management.

goodluck.
EDIT: JACKIE, depression can also be genetic and from a combination of factors. but it is true when you say that people of high intelligence are more likely to suffer from bipolar. that's the same for depression too.
