Can someone with bipolar disorder be extremely depressed for a year, then get a manic/hypomanic episode? When I was young, my cycles were very long. Months at a time being depressed and months at a time being manic. As I have gotten older, things have changed so that now I am a rapid cycler. So, the answer is yes, cycles can be very long. Contrary to popular belief, the mood swings in Bipolar disorder do not happen in a second. It鈥檚 not about being happy one second, then mad, then sad. The mood swings last weeks or months and a manic or depressive episode needs to last three or more days before being labeled a Bipolar episode. Also the mood swings in bipolar can be trigered by events (even the weather) but more often are not triggered by anything Yes, you can. You can also be the other way around to, where you are manic for a year then have a depressive episode. Yes, they can... That's the definition of bipolar disorder. even if you have one manic/hypomanic episode, you are still diagnosed with bipolar. Yes. |
