What causes bipolar disorder ?can someone cause you to have bipolar?

ok i know that bipolar disorder is a mood swing disorder.so do it mean when like people bring you down from being happy constantly ,and make you mad constantly whether its people you don't know or family. so can that make someone to become bipolar .just by simply being brought down like all the time, and someone making you mad intentionally all the time on a constant basis as a child into adult hood or do you have to be born with it

"What are the causes of bipolar disorder?

While the exact cause of bipolar disorder is not known, most scientists believe that bipolar disorder is likely caused by multiple factors that interact with each other to produce a chemical imbalance affecting certain parts of the brain.

Bipolar disorder often runs in families, and studies suggest a genetic component to the illness. A stressful environment or negative life events may interact with an underlying genetic or biological vulnerability to produce the disorder. There are other possible "triggers" of bipolar episodes: the treatment of depression with an antidepressant medication may trigger a switch into mania, sleep deprivation may trigger mania, or hypothyroidism may produce depression or mood instability. It is important to note that bipolar episodes can and often do occur without any obvious trigger."

Right now it looks like bipolar disorder is a combination of genetics, environment, and personality. A person could be born with the genes for the disorder, but grow up in a loving and supportive family and have a particular personality and never suffer from it. Or they could be born with the genes, have the same or slightly different personality, and grow up in an environment that is maybe less than supportive and have all of the symptoms of the disorder. You've asked a good question, but there aren't any good answers for it. Scientists are studying what causes the disorder, maybe one day we'll know.

you cant 'become' bipolar.

i'm type two bipolar. the more severe kind. and it is VERY hard to live with.

most people dont even get diagnosed with it or see symptoms of it until their 20's for whatever reason but many people just have it naturally. it's a chemical imbalance.

for me, it makes me like a rollar coaster.

there are many many small dips and turns in one day. i'm happy, then im sad, im angry, then im empty and bland...but then there are bigger waves, so to say, where generally within these days of ups and downs i am considered in a constant 'manic' state. then maybe a month later i will be in a constant state of 'depression' or hopelessness. it's really rough.

read my hubs on bipolar, it should answer all your questions and more.

p.s. been there done that

no..it's a BRAIN chemical disorder...it's NOT catching.

I have had bipolar for years. I can be so happy and one little thing can either make me severely depressed or sends me in a rage. People who know you and is trying to get to you will bring up your illness to really upset you and then they are fine, which I think they have an illness also. That is why I don't really like being around people. I have a hard enough in life. If people really do love you they try to help you, not hurt you. I have an ex who cuts me down all the time and says terrible things about me that he knows is not true. I just hope he doesn't push me over the edge. Bipolar is an extremely difficult disorder to live with, and especially when you have other disorders to go along with it. I just wish this guy would stay away from me and out of my life, if he is just going to be mean to me. I am really beginning to not have any friendly behavior towards him at all. He is a big toxic enemy to me. Bipolar can be passed down from a parent. My mom, sister and neice have bipolar along with 2 of her sisters. Gee, thanks ya'll, huh? I wish you all the best and try to do your best. Pull up bipolar or mental disorders on yahoo and there are web sites that may help you. I get bipolar newletters all the time. But, being around someone who doesn't care, does not help you at all. I guess I will have to get a restraining order against my ex friend, he is destroying my mind. I would love to share things with you, but you aren't allowed to give or get emails from people on here, are you? Good Luck!!

Well stress and depression mostly causes it to much emotions in one place, mixture of feelings unstable hormones mind bloging situations mental issues(sometiems) things tht are conflicting mentaly ya kno inisde ur mmind
Genetic factors in Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder tends to be familial, meaning that it 鈥渞uns in families.鈥?About half the people with bipolar disorder have a family member with a mood disorder, such as depression.
A person who has one parent with bipolar disorder has a 15 to 25 percent chance of having the condition.
A person who has a non-identical twin with the illness has a 25 percent chance of illness, the same risk as if both parents have bipolar disorder.
A person who has an identical twin (having exactly the same genetic material) with bipolar disorder has an even greater risk of developing the illness about an eightfold greater risk than a nonidentical twin.
Studies of adopted twins (where a child whose biological parent had the illness is raised in an adoptive family untouched by the illness) has helped researchers learn more about the genetic causes vs. environmental and life events causes.

there are Genetic Factors which means it can be inherited.
low or high level of a specific neurotransmitter such as serotonin, norepinephrine or dopamine is the cause.
however stressful life events are thought to be the main element in the development of bipolar disorder. Means that each person inherits certain physical vulnerabilities to problems that may or may not appear depending on what stresses occur in his or her life.

It's a disorder with nerve cells not sending signals in the right direction or in a timely matter due to an inconsistent polarity. We're not certain of the cause, but it generally develops in industrialized nations, and is one of the larger epidemics. It's very possible that his bipolarity was a non-issue while you were around him as he was in the "manic" phase, it's also possible that the change in personality you see is resulting from medication, not the disorder.

It would be wonderful to say that X or Y was the cause, but the answer is not that simple. Most scientists believe that mental illnesses are caused by a combination of several factors working together. In bipolar disorder, these factors are usually divided into biological and psychological causes. In plain English, the main reasons mental illness develops are physical (biological) and environmental.

I think this is hereditary, so you are born with it. It does not show up until later in life, there is medicine for it. Take care.
