Does tobacco smoking exacerbate bipolar disorder and schizophrenia?

Please indicate if you are a smoker in your answer.

Actually no, there is a reason that a large percentage of people who suffer from schizophrenia smoke cigarettes. The cigarettes actually help with schizophrenic symptoms.

As for bipolar disorder, I'm not really sure as that is a seperate disorder. (By the way, people who have bipolar disorder do not have 'schizophrenic episodes', but may have psychotic episodes brought on by severe mania or depression)
Not necessarily, but it can. Haven't had a cigarette for two months, but I smoked for over a decade.
I smoke yes. No it doesnt exacerbate the illnesses it actually helps control them and makes you feel better believe it or not. It is when you try to quit smoking though, that your symtoms will be more prominent during that period.
Quite the contrary, actually. I am Bipolar, and while I am having one of my schizophrenic episodes, I often smoke to relax myself. I talk to a friend on the phone and smoke, it just calms my nerves, gives me clarity of thought to observe the situation.
