Birth control pills and breast milk? |
i started taking birth control pills about a week ago and since then my baby completely refuses to breastfeed - she just wants formula - could t be the pills - has anyone else ever experienced this? Apparently birth control pills do reduce your milk supply. Did you tell your doctor you are feeding? They should prescribe the mini pill which doesn't interfere with your milk supply. I don't take the pill, we use condoms. I assume you discussed breastfeeding while taking the pill with your doctor as some oral contraceptives aren't suitable to take while breastfeeding. If you're unsure, see your doctor. Hi, please stop taking pills right away...... the hormones could affect ur baby's hormones if its a girl. The pill you took before you got pregnant will not be suitable anymore, as you are breastfeeding. Full contraceptive pills can reduce your milk supply, which is why your baby is no longer interested as he isn't getting enough from you breast. You will need to be on what they call a "mini-pill" which needs to be taken at the same time everyday and this will cover you contraceptive wise, but also keep your milk supply coming. I would seek medical advice ASAP as if you are keen to carry on breastfeeding you should stop these pills before your milk supply stops completely. My doctor has prescribed me a different pill from normal while I'm breastfeeding, apparently the level of hormones is different from the standard pill. I would check this out with your doctor just to be on the safe side. |
