Do birth control pills help with heavy, prolonged periods?

I have read where birth control pills will actually make you bleed more. If so, why do doctors prescribe them for heavy, prolonged periods?

Just curious.

No. Birth control does not make you bleed more. It actually helps the bleeding stop. Well not stop but it helps make it to where it isn't as bad.

not will actually but potentially can make you bleed more. if you have heavy long periods or have a lot of cramping or miss periods, birth control may be a good option. best way to find out is to go to a gyno or even ask your normal doctor. if you are on certains meds or smoke, it might not be the best option but birth control def makes your period regular, generally 3-4 days and painless. hope it helps.

Birth control pills do not make your period longer. In fact, they make it shorter and lighter and the symptoms of PMS less severe if you suffer from severe cramps etc.

because they make your period shorter and also they come at the same time every month.

birth control pills are to keep the period short. I was on them and my period was only 2-3 days.

Because it makes it so you get it for only a week at the same time every month
