Birth Control Pills and Spermicide Condoms effectivness?

I'm 18 and I've been with my boyfriend for two and half years, I'm at the point where I'm comfortable having sex but want to be absolutely insanely careful about getting pregnant! I'm starting the pill after my next period, we're probably going to wait at least 2-3 months for it to be effective and we're planning on using condoms with spermicide, my mom likes to remind that (since she knows I'm on going on the pill), that she had a friend who got pregnant on birth control and it can always happen. How safe are we and what is the chance of getting pregnant?

It would be spermicide condoms, not spermicide.

As long as you are using two methods you should be pretty safe, I have a friend that got preg by only using the pill and another friend who has used the pill and condoms for two years and they haven't had any pregnancies. If you have a backup you should be just fine! =)

Your mom's friend may have used it incorrectly. If you use birth control correctly, there's only a very, very slim chance of getting pregnant. Nothing is 100%, but if you follow the doctor's orders and never miss a dose, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Plus, taking the pill while also using condoms lessens your chances for pregnancy even further.

It is very good that you are taking care of your health and your actions. I would strongly recommend you to use so called "dual protection". Read all details in http://www.menstrual-cycle.info

You can get pregnant on any birth control no birth control is 100%. So if you are on the pill take it everyday at the same time than you chance of getting pregnant are less.

theres always a chance with both, but if used correctly its very slim. make sure all spermicides are not oil based as this can ruin a condom
