Blood clots from Birth control pills? Please?

Ive been having some pain breathing today, it feels like I just cant get enough air, and I'm actually wheezing a little. When I exhale, its like I'm exhaling too much and all the air is leaving me. Normally I wouldnt be worried, but my lower right leg started hurting a few hours ago, it hurts to the touch and bothers me when I'm walking. It feels like I have a massive bruise on my calf, but there isnt anything there. I looked around online because this is bothering me, the way I'm feeling, and I read about clots assosiated with oral contraceptives, so I was just curious how often this happens, and if the way my leg feels/the way I'm breathing is a symptom? In the morning I intend on calling my doctor to check and just make sure, but since I'm alone with no car or phone right now, an idea what to do to maybe relax and help myself a little would be helpful, please.

i'm taking Ortho cyclin, Ive been taking it for 17 days

In the mean time, if you are concerned that you may develop a clot, there are several warning signs that can possibly reveal one. A good way to remember them is to think of the word ACHES, short for

Abdominal pain,

Chest pain (and shortness of breath),

Headaches (especially those that are new, severe, or associated with persistent dizziness,

difficulty speaking, fainting,

numbness or weakness in extremities),

Eye problems (blurred vision or loss of vision),

Severe leg pain (and/or redness and swelling in the calves or thighs).

I have actually had a blood clot from the pill. My leg ached a little and felt warm to the touch..You may have a slight fever. Usually the clot would be below the knee. You are more likely to have a clot if you are a smoker, over35, or have a history of this in your family.

Thats a good possibility that they could be causing it depends on your diet too I suppose but theyre definitely not helping also a matter of how long youve been taking them. Should probably get some rest in the meantime.

well i kno u can get blood clots from those pills. talk to your doctor.

Can you get a neighbor to call the emergency room triage nurse? They will let you know if you need to come in right away or if it can wait. I would be worried if it was me.

Yes it is definitely possible to develop clots from taking the pill, especially if you smoke or are over 35. Don't rub or massage your leg at all.

You didn't say if this just started suddenly or if you've had a chest cold already. Now that kids are going back to school, viruses are being spread around. I hope that is all it is. Please try to contact medical personnel asap to get some advice.

GO TO THE HOSPITAL. They can do a very simple test to make sure it's not a clot - it's called a venous ultra-sound. It's better to be safe than dead. And yes, clotting is a concern with birth control - generally if you smoke and are over 35 but if you have a high risk medical history you could still have a clot without these factors. Get your bum to the hospital - go next door and ask your neighbor to take you (or to let you use their phone), use the neighbor's phone to call a friend or a cab to take you, or have your neighbor call 911 for you!
