Can Yaz or Yasmin birth control pills be used as an Emergency Contraceptive? If so, how?

I have been off my birth control for a few weeks due to antibiotics, which makes it ineffective anyway. I was going to wait to start a new pack until after my next period, instead of messing my cycle up. Last night I had an accident (condom broke) and today I got the morning after pill. This pill was 53$ at CVS. I have heard that some birth control pills can be taken as EC, if you take a certain amount at once. Since I have extra packs of both pills I was wondering if either work, so I don't need to buy EC if this ever happens again (I hope not!). Thanks

EC does not induce your period. I am reading the booklet it came with and it says It works just like birth control, except with more hormones. It also says that I will get my period at it's normal time this month. (If it works.)

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to buy the emergency contraceptive. All contraceptive pills have stated doses and you should NEVER EVER take more than the stated dose.

The Pill tricks your body into thinking its already ovulated, so your monthly egg does not release.

Plan B induces your period early, so the fertilize egg will not implant in your uterus.

Although its true, both The Pill and Plan B have levonorgestrel, the Plan B pill has a greater amount, which is why it does what it does.

It would not be safe to take 3 or 4 birth control pills at the same time to achieve the same affect as Plan B since The Pill also as alot more added hormones.

You can鈥檛 use Yaz as emergency contraception. Right now there is no approved dosage for it as EC. In your case, it鈥檇 be a good idea to go get some EC in advance to keep around in case the need should arise.

The pill can not be used as EC. Also, taking 4 at once is dangerous, hence why the included instructions say that if you missed more than 2 days, you have to stop taking the pill and wait until you have your period. You can take two pills for two consecutive days, but any more than that causes bodily harm.

Taking 4 at once, really bad idea.

A better alternative would be to look into things like an IUD, or a diaphragm. If you want to stay on birth control pills, try researching places like Planned Parenthood, which may be able to get you EC at a much cheaper cost. If that doesn't work, call all the various pharmacies and compare prices. Just like regular groceries, prices can vary, sometimes greatly, pharmacy to pharmacy. Shop around to find the lowest price.
