Taking birth control pills at no set time?

for the first two months or so i was very good about taking it everyday at the exact same time, but now since school has started, and i have to go in some early mornings, other times stay late into the night, that sort of thing, i find it very difficult to take it at the same time everyday, or even remember to take it, for that matter. sometimes i take it as im going to school, when i wake up, when im in school, sometimes i dont remember until 8 that night...
does that mean it isnt working the way it probably should?

The pill should be taken at approximately the same time each day.

For progesterone only pills it should be taken within 3 hours of the time you normally take it each day. Otherwise you wont be protected for the next 2 days.

For combined oral contraceptives, although it is best to take it at the same time each day, it will be effective if you take the next one within 12 hours of the time you normally take it. Any extra delay and it won't be effective until you take 7 consecutive active pills and during that time you should use another form of contraception.

However if you are constantly forgetting to take the pill you probably should look into other forms of contraception.

  • Just started taking birth control pills and my cycles are all over the place...?

Birth control pills mess with your hormone levels so a result of this is a thrown off cycle. Its just a side effect and happens to all women on the pills, but its worth the protection.
