Ladies - thoughts on the different types of Birth Control Pills?

I was thinking about starting the combination pills, and wondering if there was anyway to get them without going through my doctor? [or if i did get them from her, would she have to let my parents know, because I am a minor]

what type of pill would you say is best?

any side effects?

and also, how could I get tested for STDs without my parents knowledge?
