Where can an 18 year old get birth control pills?

Alright so I'm 18 and my boyfriend and I have been talking about having sex. Now we are both virgins and have been together for two years and well i think its about time I go on the pill just in case we were to have sex. Now the only problem is that my family already thinks I'm having sex and by asking them to let me go on the pill will be disastrous for me. Anyway I have no idea where to get the birth control pill. Is there anyone besides my family I can talk to about this? and well just tell me where I can go to get the pill PLEASE AND THANK YOU

Planned Parenthood is great! You can use the link below to find one in your area. You will need to get a pap-smear to get the birth control pill. Pap-smears are no big deal and you will be in and out of the room in five minutes. Planned Parenthood runs on a sliding scale for payment. So if you are unemployed, it is free. Yep free! Everything including the pap-smear, and the birth control pills (BC pills). Also, when you get your pap done here, they will take a swab for STD's. It's super convenient.

Your other option is to do what I did. When I was 18 I was still covered on my parent's health insurance plan. If you don't already have a copy of your insurance card, get one. Make an appointment with your regular family doctor to get your pap and prescription. You do not have to go to a gynecologist to get a pap-smear and birth control. You can make an appointment all on your own. :) I went to my family doctor. It was a bit weird but I got it done anyway. If you go to your doctor, remember that appointments may need to made two weeks in advance.

Also, during the first 30 days of BC pill you can still get pregnant. So you will either need to use condoms, or just wait until the 30 days are up. Full pregnancy protection will be in effect after the first 30 days. But the BC pill does not protect against STD's. You doctor will remind you of this when she gives you the prescription. You need to be fully confident that your man does not have HIV and any other STD. You can both be tested for free, but you will need to find a free location in our area.

The less popular and most expensive way to get the pill is to buy it over the internet. You can purchase prescription from over-seas websites, no questions asked. The down side is the cost. BC pills will run up to $50-$100 a pack/month!

It is so refreshing to see a responsible woman around here! The world needs more women like you! Good luck!

I'd like to help you out with this, you can contact me privately if you'd like. I'm pretty educated when it comes to BC.

Regarding planned parenthood, the only thing I don't like about them is that they're mostly a clinic. You don't or won't necessarily have a doctor following you and making sure what you're taking is right for you.

It's also tough to get an appointment with them and the wait is usually a few weeks or so.

if anything, I would recommend going to an OBGYN or a Gynecologist. They can discuss all the methods of birth control available and figure out which would fit you.

They'll ask you questions like, do you smoke, do you drink, do you or have you ever used drugs. They'll check your weight and test your blood for liver and kidney functions. This will all be to make sure your body can tolerate birth control. You don't want something that will just make you sick.

You can expect to (probably) gain weight when you take it, and your breasts might get bigger and get tender. I know mine are sometimes (they get itchy :\)

if you tend to feel bloated when you get your period I would expect more of the same. Also it's not 100% effective, nothing is. So if you want the extra re-assurance, buy condoms as well and use them in conjunction with each other.

I never talked to my family about any of this stuff, so I know how that is. But I also didn't have sex until this past october (at 23) because I chose to do things on my time, when I was ready. I was however, very knowledgeable about birth control, so when the time came I would know what I was doing and what I was potentially putting inside my body. Your body is your own, it's like your fortress and you should treat it as such. Don't let others try to persuade you or convince you to put things they think would be good in it. if you don't feel comfortable with a method of BC, then go for another.

At one point, I was considering the Nuvaring and I was all for it. That was until I did a lot more reading on it and found that the more I read, the less comfortable I felt. When I told the Gyno about it she tried to CONVINCE ME that it was the greatest thing ever, but I put my foot down.
