Is my birth control pill effective? |
Im a little concerned my birth control pill is not effective at this point in my cycle... Had my period from Dec. 6th thru about Dec.11th. Started back on my pill the 12th. After taking 7 in a row, my husband and I had TOTALLY unprotected sex. (last night)....Took pill #8 today... Should I be worried? Or would the 7 pills be enough to ward off pregnancy? Im evidently on a pretty strong pill...so says my doctor. He doesn't even like prescribing it!! Its necon 1/50. Just wondering what my odds are that I might avoid pregnancy!? Thanks. With any hormonal method of birth control, there is about a 1% chance you will get pregnant LONG ENOUGH FOR YOU TO BE AWARE OF IT. Hormonal methods of birth control include BC pill, Depo shot, Nuva Ring, The Patch, Norplant, hormonal IUD and they work on three levels; 1st line of defense is prevention of ovulation, in which case the egg is never fertilized and you go on. However, especially with today's low dosages of hormones, there is quite a big chance of "breakthrough" which is the term for when you ovulate anyway. 2nd line of defense is prevention of that fertilized egg from implanting in the lining of the uterus, causing the new life to die and be flushed away with your period. You would not be aware of this. For those who are firmly pro-life and believe that life begins at conception, this is a problem. 3rd line of defense is that the birth control hormones cause the implanted egg to die and detach from the lining of the uterus. This usually happens during those times when you're "late" but you have your period anyway. Usually it is a bit heavier than normal, and may have more bits and pieces than usual, which is the uterine lining and the dead baby, however small. This is also considered an abortion by those who are firmly pro-life and who believe that life begins at conception. So, your chances of "getting pregnant" are actually higher than 1%, depending on how often your ovulation breaks through and whether there is sperm present when that breakthrough happens. It is also important that you realize that you are taking that risk by engaging in sexual behavior knowing that you still have a chance, however small, of becoming pregnant. Please be prepared to deal with the product of that chance, a baby, by taking responsibility and allowing that child to be born, even if you decide not to keep him or her. Please choose adoption. Please choose life. If you are not prepared to do that, then please do not have sex. HOW SOME TYPES OF BIRTH CONTROL CAN CAUSE ABORTION WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE, ALONG WITH INFORMATION ABOUT NON-HORMONAL BARRIER BIRTH CONTROL METHODS THAT ARE JUST AS EFFECTIVE http://abort73.com/html/ii-d-2-types.htm... HOW HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY AND HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL METHODS HAVE NOW DEFINITELY BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE CANCER http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/102519... http://www.cnn.com/2006/health/12/15/gup... I take Yaz. My doc said that for the first week to use another form of BC but after 7 days I would be covered. Don't worry!! You're probably safe! ANY time you skip a pill you increase the risk of getting pregnant...time will tell if you played russian roulette and won or lost, this time... probably a 75% chance b/c the bc is not back in your system fully lol, i was like totally in the same place, but instead i missed 1 pill at the start of my 2nd pack and i had unprotected sex on the 5th day of me taking my pill... the next day i went to the pharmacist and told him everything and he told me that i was fine and no need to worry because during that week i had a period so i flushed everything out... if i was you i wpuldnt worry too much, plus after 7 days of taking ur pill ur protected... hope this has helped... Since you said you started back on the pill I will assume you have been taking the pill and you just started a new pack after your period in which case you are 99.9% protected if you take your period at the same time (w/in 30 min) every day. So yes, the 7 pills will be enough to war odd pregnancy. BC pills are designed to protect you for the entire month. |
