I took my birth control pill about 20 minutes late. Is it still ok?

I'm on my first pack of birth control pills and tomorrow I start the green ones. Today was my last peach colored pill and I accidently took it 20 minutes late. How much later can you take a pill before it can cause problems?

I also got strep throat last week so I'm on a full blown dose of antibiotics. I haven't had sex yet by the way. I have to continue taking my antibiotics until they are all gone.

But how soon afterwards will my pills be effective again? Keeping in mind this is my first pack and all I have left of this first pack is the inert pills.

It's okay to take your pill 20 minutes late sometimes, you need to give yourself a time frame of when you take it, and how much time do you give yourself if you forget it. i take my pill at 9am but no later than 9:30am. as for the antibiotics, im sure you were told that they lessen the effectiveness of birthcontrol, so you should use another form of protection for at least a week after the antibiotics are through.

The 20 minutes late thing is no big deal--you're told to take your pills at the same time of the day so that you don't forget to take them. I heard you're fine if you take a pill an entire day late, as long as you don't make a habit of it.

You should use a second method of contraception as long as you're on the antibiotics though, and for a couple weeks afterwards.
Taking the pill 20 minutes late isn't going to effect you at all, but what will effect you is the antibiotics. Just make sure you're using condoms if you're having sex right now. Use them for a month after you stop the antibiotics (doesn't hurt to be careful... I know antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of the pill).
Kay, when it says take them the same time every day, that doesn't mean down to the minute. As long as you're within about two hours you're FINE. However you're right, birth control doesn't work as well when you're on antibiotics. Antibiotics often are still in your system for up to a week afterwards though, so you should probably wait at least that long after your last dose of antibiotics before relying on the pill alone.
you are ok, it doesnt cause problems unless you totally miss one in a 24 hr period., as far as your pills being effective i would give it 2 wks after you are done with the antibiotics and dont eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice or that can interfere with your pills making sure you dont get pregnant.
