Going on the birth control pill? |
i'm in my mid 20's and surprisingly, i've never been on the pill before. i'd like to start, but how exactly do i go about this? - can i just go to my regular doctor? my regular doc is an internist, so she also performs my gyn exams/pap smears/etc. my last was about 5 months ago. will i need another gyn exam before starting, or can i just make an appt. and ask for a prescription? thanks. Ask your regular doctor about going on the Pill since she already is performing as your Gyn. make an appt with doctor no need for another annual exam, doctor can prescribe u for pills Yes you can see your regular doc. There is generally no need to see a GYN doc unless your regular doc refers you to one for special problems. Most women don't seem to realize that the regular doc can handle all of your medical needs and will refer you if something comes up that they can't deal with. Since you have already had you annual pelvic/pap you should be able just make an appointment with the doc to discuss birth control options and he will help you decide what is best for you. go to your Gyno I was on the pill but it was B/C I had problems with my period lol Smart girl! I think the pill is the best thing to be on. I believe this is what you mean.. in small towns we don't have "gyno's".. our regular doctor performs our pap test. And yes you go to her and just say "I'd like to start taking the birth control pill." If she's a good doctor she will make sure you can depending on your medical history and she will either write you a prescription or give you a starter kit & a prescription. She will also talk things over with you informing you how to start the pills, when to start & the side effects. (And she should answer any questions you have.) Since you're last pap was 5 months ago, no, you will not need another exam for the pills. You will just have to go back for your regular exam 7 months from now. Best of luck! :) |
