2 Questions regarding birth control pill...fertility and acne? |
I've been on ortho tricyclen since I was 18 and now I am 25 so its been about 7 years and I am thinking about stopping the pill soon. My first question is...does being on the pill for a long period of time have a negative effect on fertility? Someone recently told me that it could cause infertilty and that has me worried! My second question is...does stopping the pill cause acne and if so is it permanent or only til your body gets used to the hormones and such? I had mild acne as a teen and once I started the ortho tricyclen my skin cleared up and remained good til this day. So I have no idea if my skin is clear now because I outgrew the teen acne or because of the pill. If I stop taking the pill will my acne flare up and if so for how long usually? Thank you so much for taking time to read my long question and answering my concerns!!! :) I do know that the pill usually helps acne. I was on the pill for 10 years before I got pregnant with my first and another 4 before I had my second. Not a problem for me. :) Don't think it will cause a problem with your fertility. Talk with you GYN about this. I have been on and off the pill since I was 15 or so (first started to regulate my cycle) and have had 3 children. Going off never bothers my face. I know after getting off the pill it can take a little while to get pregnant, everything needs to get out of your system. I've been off the pill since nov. and was on it for 2 years. I havent gotten pregnant yet. I have 2 kids and was never on the pill before I had them and got pregnant right away. about the acne you shouldnt get any, you probably out grew it. if your acne was a hormonal problem (which it probably was sing the birth control cleared your skin up) then getting off it will probably make you get acne again, not for just a month or so... as long as your hormones are out of wack... unless, they regulated out while you were on the pill... u never know till you get off it and see. it might for a month or two after stoping make it hard to get pregnant, cause its still in your system... but after that, i should be fine. if not, talk to ur gyn. good luck! I also have acne that only cleared after using this pill. I have been using it for about 6 years and have tried going off it twice but had to reuse it because the acne came back in full force. I asked my gyno about fertility after - she said the pill does not affect that - it is your age and your ovaries that affect fertility. |
