I forgot to take my birth control pill for 2 days and now I have a very heavy period is this normal,? |
In 2nd week of birth control pill cycle, missed mon. and tues, resumed taking on wed. started bleeding wed. and haven't stopped. Is this normal? should I call doctor? Yes, this is normal. On the pill, you do not have a "real" period. You have what is known as a "withdrawal bleed" caused by not taking hormones for a few days (this is why you get your period during the week of pills that do not contain hormones). By not taking your pill for two days, you most likely induced this withdrawal bleed early. However, by skipping pills mid-pack, you are at risk for pregnancy. You should use backup contraception, such as a condom, until you start a new pack. You're having break through bleeding. Normal, but notify your doctor anyway. Use condoms as an added protection. I think this is normal, but if you are worried call your doctor Yes. Those off-colored pills in your birth-control pack are just sugar pills, sometimes with added iron in them. When you get to those, they trigger you period. Thus, if you stop taking your pills for a few days it can trigger the same response. you should also be careful about getting pregnant since you have missed a few pills. I can't remember if the recommended waiting time is 2 or 3 weeks after you have missed a few days, but doctors say it is more likely you will get pregnant during that time. |
