How efficient is using both the birth control pill and condoms in preventing pregnancy?

When I was talking to my doctor he said that using condoms while on the pill only presents a 92-96% chance of preventing pregnancy. That seems a bit low to me since I heard that the pill by itself used correctly is almost 100%.
Does anyone else know (from experience perhaps) how effective it is to use both forms of birth control?
Also, are there any ways to maximize their effectiveness?

For reference, I take the pill the exact same time every day, or usually within an hour of when I'm supposed to take it if I forget.

Answers are appreciated.

The pill is not 100% but using the pill and condoms in conjuntion would be almost 100%
If you're going to be having sex, this is the safest way to do it.
well i think the pill is 97 ot 98% effective, and the condom is 98.9% effective, this is what ive been told, duno how wel they go together
condom use is not affected by the pill. dumbass doctor...go for it. that's what i did, and i'm not pregnant! just take you pill on time, EVERY day, and use a condom. if it breaks, there is still the pill behind it, and visa versa. smart girl. condoms also protect from STDs (if you aren't in a committed relationship, or haven't been tested).
condom wont give you side effects like putting on weight or anything else compared to pills..but the best way..i believe to wash your private parts everytime after sex..hygenic reason n also might help to prevent pregnancy..
Your doctor is correct. Keep to your schedule and you will give yourself the higher percentage. Ovulation is usually about 3 days before your period starts, so if you avoid sexual intercourse for the week before your period you will raise your protection against pregnancy even more. But, in reality, there is no 100% in life -just statistics.
lots of science classes, and a college human sexuality course.
