What's the right age to go on the birth control pill?

What's the right age to go on the birth control pill?

If the sole purpose is to regulate your period, the low-dose or mini-pill might be sufficient. You should probably wait a couple of years after onset of menses to be sure it's not just your period "settling in" so to speak, but some girls do have almost debilitating periods so if you feel that you have extremely heavy or irregular periods you should talk to an OB/GYN. A couple of things should also be checked for, for instance polycystic ovary syndrome is one.

I personally didn't start the pill till 6 months before I married - 6 months because my doctor told me due to my weight & other factors to be effective for birth control I would need to get a certain level of hormones built up in my system. Worked fine for nearly a year after I married - until my insurance company changed my pill to their approved - then I got pregnant. So I guess what I'm saying is that one should be very sure of the reason for getting the prescription, since there may be different things to consider due to the two different uses.
If you are having sex, you are old enough. Hopefully you are not a 13 year old kid asking this.
