Which herbal & medicinal products have negative effects on the birth control pill? |
I'm on the Minesse BC pill & would just like to know about all the known products that have negative effects on the BC pill. I'm quite paranoid about it & just want to be extra sure. Itake my pill every morning around the same time with food. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Medications That Reduce Effectiveness of OCs(Oral Contraceptives) : Certain antibiotics (penicillin tetracycline, rifampin), antifungal medications (e.g., griseofulvin), certain antiseizure medications (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, oxcarbazepine, and topiramate), possibly orlistat (a diet drug) and St. John's Wort. Examples of Medications That May Increase Potency of OCs: Vitamin C, acetaminophen (Tylenol and others). Medications That Have Other Interactions: Corticosteroids, theophylline (e.g., Theo-Dur), certain drugs used for rheumatoid arthritis, including some immunosuppressants (such as cyclosporine, methotrexate, and others), morphine, certain anti-anxiety and antidepressant agents, loop diuretics, digoxin, warfarin, proton pump inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole). Unfortunately, it seems there haven't been many studies concerning herbal medicines and their interactions with BC pills. Source(s): http://www.enh.org/healthandwellness/enc... ANTIBIOTICS- be sure to use protection when you are on the pill and all times, they hinder the effectiveness of the pill . Did you get a info pamphlet with your meds? I would go to your pharmacist and ask he or she for info on it. I would. |
