Are there any oher treatments for low estrogen other than the birth control pill? |
Are there any oher treatments for low estrogen other than the birth control pill? Kind of depends on what symptoms experiencing. Too often estrogen is NOT low, but progesterone is. There are bio-identical hormones (natural) that are not synthetic like the birth control pill and definitely would be more safe. You would need to talk with your physician or a compounding pharmacist. According to John Lee, MD the safest and weakest form of estrogen is "Estriol". There are phytoherbs or phytohormones which are plant sapins which also mimic estrogens in the body, but the phytoherbs are not a true estrogen. Examples would be black cohosh, chaste tree berry, soy. Something else to consider is natural progesterone cream. Progesterone is a precursor of estrogen, so by supplementing with it, could actual help any estrogen deficiency and or wake up estrogen receptor sites in the body. The best thing to learn more is to read John R Lee MD's series of books What Your Doctor May Not Tell you About PreMenopause,.... Menopause and .....Breast Cancer. Hope this helps answer your question. Source(s): www.johnleemd.com I would add that the herbal estrogens (soy, etc.) don't really do much. I've participated in studies at Stanford University where large groups of women tried them, and they made no difference in estrogen levels. But if you really do have low estrogen and if your doctor says you should take estrogen, you can get it in pill form (not birth control pills), or it comes as a patch like the stop-smoking patches. After my hysterectomy, I wore the patch for a few years to replace the estrogen I'd lost. It worked really well. But don't take additional estrogen unless your doctor says it's necessary. Too much estrogen can upset your hormonal balance. you can go to the GNC store and buy some pills the have estrogen in them, I can't remember what the name of them is right now but a couple years ago my doctor had me take them. |
