How is it possible to still experience PMS while on the birth control pill? |
If one is on the birth control pill, which tricks your body into thinking you are are pregnant.... then how do people experience PMS while they are still taking their active pills? I have PMS symptoms a few days before I stop taking the active pills and have my period. usually you won't have PMS symptoms until you've started taking the inactive pills, as this causes 'withdrawal' from the reduced hormones and thus start your period. If you're no a tri-phasic pill (one that has three different strengths throughout the 21 active pills - such as Ortho Tri-Cyclen), it's possible that the change in hormones towards the end of your pack cause you to have PMS-like symptoms. Monophasic (one strenght througout) are better at reducing breakthrough bleeding because it keeps the hormone levels elevated through the whole cycle..if the symptoms you're describing bother you alot, talk to your doctor about possisbly switching to a monophasic, which might get rid of those early PMS symptoms (although you'd still have them while menstruating). Source(s): I'm a nurse you still get your period It is possible because the last few pills have very few hormones in them and your regular hormones start to kick in. This causes your PMS. It's normal. I still experience PMS while on the pill. It is probably because many pregnancy symptoms mirror PMS ones (bloating, crankiness, etc) I don't think pills trick your body into thinking you are pregnant.. I know they prevent the release of eggs from the ovaries..so that it can't be fertilized... With all of the hormones there is likely to be slight symptoms of PMS whether or not you are on BC.. Anyway..hope that helps You just answered your own question! When you are off the active pills your body normalizes and realizes that your period is due, so yes, it is possible to experience PMS in minor form, but it should be greatly improved then had you been off birth control all together. If not, you may want to consider switching pills if its too problimatic. |
