How long will it take for me to experience positive effects of the Yasmin birth control pill?

I have been taking Yasmin for 3 1/2 weeks now and I have not experienced any of the positive side effects i.e. less water retention, clear skin, shorter, lighter periods etc. I started my period 2 days ago and had all of the pms symptoms and my flow is heavy like always. I was very discouraged because my doctor told me my period would be lighter and more pleasant. Have I just not given it enough time...or is this pill not for me?

It usually takes about three months for your body to adjust to the pill, also takes that long to adjust to a new kind of pill if you switch. I would wait at least three months, and if you don't have any improvement, talk to your doctor about trying a different pill. It can be frustrating, I've been thru 6 0r 7 different brands over the last 15 years!! Hang in there, the pill really does help with cramps, heavy flow, and other pms symptoms. Good luck!
