Is it okay to quit birth pill control after 2 days? |
I started taking birth control pills 2 days ago, on the first day of my period. So I took 2 pills so far. I am feeling really sick---nausea, dizziness, stomach aches, headache... Is it okay to just stop the pills having taken 2? Or is it going to throw off my system? This sickness is too severe for a side effect, it's too much. I called the doctor and left a message but haven't heard from him yet. So I'm not sure what is the best thing to do. Are you SURE its the pills and not some flu of some sort? I've heard of women getting SOME of those symptoms, but not all of them and certainly not that severely. Try taking the pills in the evenings before bed, or with food; never on an empty stomach. As for quitting, sure you could, unless you're taking them for a medical reason. And if you're using them for contraception, do not assume for a second that you have any sort of contraceptive protection from them. If these are making you sick, then you can try switching to another kind if you still want to take the pill. There are tons of them out there in different formulations that might not bother you as much. Some women, though, just can't tolerate the pill, no matter which kind they try. I think it takes at least one full cycle before you can expect to be protected by them, so if you're going to have sex, use something else. Even after a month on the pill, you might want to use a backup during the second cycle just in case. I've quit them "cold turkey" twice and it had absolutely no effect on me. It's not like they make special pills to wean you off the hormones, everyone just stops abruptly when they are done with taking them. I never had any of the symptoms that you have, so I would still consult your doctor about how you're feeling. But don't worry, you can stop taking the pills and it won't hurt you. several years on birth control When I took birth control pills, I felt like I had morning sickness every month for a year. It was awful! I was taking chewable Pepto's like candy. I ended up quitting the pill cold turkey and felt better quickly. It shouldn't be a problem if you just stop taking them now. Also, you should know that all methods of hormonal birth control (including the Pill, the "mini-pill," the "patch," Depo-Provera, Implanon, emergency contraception, etc.) work in three ways: 1. By attempting to prevent ovulation (the release of an egg) 2. By thickening cervical mucus, which may prevent sperm from reaching the egg 3. By changing the lining of the womb to prevent a newly conceived human being from implanting in the womb, causing his or her death. The IUD also works by preventing the newly conceived child from implanting in the womb. By the time implantation occurs, the child is already 5-9 days old. There are other options available that never cause abortions and avoid the risks and problems associated with hormonal birth control. These include condoms, spermicide, cervical caps, diaphragms, and Natural Family Planning. |
