Can I skip the placebo pills and go straight to a new birth control pack to avoid getting my menstrual cycle?

I am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I know I need to get my period every so often, but can I just go straight to a new pack, say, every other month? Educated and respectful responses only, please! Thank you!

My understanding is that this tactic works better with monophasic pills (the kind where the hormones are level over the three active weeks) than it does with triphasic ones like Ortho Tri-Cyclen (where each week is a different hormone level.) That's something you might want to ask your doc about. But I have been blessed by my two most recent doctors to do this on occasion as they don't feel there's any significant drawback to it. I usually skip about every other period, just for convenience. You might not be able to go much longer than that; some women will spot if they try to skip more than a couple consecutive periods. But yes, you can do it.
Yes. I am on exactly the same thing, and it works like a charm to do that, but ONLY on occasion. Most peoples bodies will only accept skipping your period once every so often. I have done it like skip a cycle, then let nature runs its course for a while, then you can skip again. Maybe like every four months or so. I have been on this for a couple of years, and I am very happy with the way I feel on it. Email me if you have any others questions. Good luck!
It doesn't hurt to skip your period every now and then. They make bc pills like that now.
My friends and I used to skip periods all the time.
Yes, but remember that your menstrual cycle helps to reduce your chances of cancer it removes old cells. If you want to go longer between cycles you should see your doctor and change to a different type of birth control pill like seasonal where you have a cycle every three months. Also any time you try to skip your period you may have break through bleeding so keep something in your purse so your not caught off somewhere unprepared.
Take the medication as prescribed to lessen the chances of backfire. Either take the placebos or don't take them. You throw your hormones out of wack not doing things correctly. I hope you don't get pregnant.
Actually recent studies I have read as of late (don't ask me to quote them, there were quite a few, but no...not in the national enquirer) seem to indicate that there is no problem postponing your period indefinietly. The pill will prevent the fluid from building up on the lining of your uterus and there is therefore little need to "clean house" occasionally.

I read that women nowadays have like double the amount of periods in their lifetime as opposed to like 100-200 years ago, as women were almost always pregnant and/or nursing.

I'd still suggest speaking to your OBGYN first.
