Does My Birth Control (the pill) Still Work as Accurately? |
Everyday, I have my alarm set for 11:30am to take my birth control. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have school at 9:30am so I usually take my pill before going to class so I don't have to worry about it in class or between classes. Same thing goes when I have to work, I usually take the pill before going because I rarely ever get a chance to take a break and gussle it down when I'm working. I'm not having unprotected sex but I wanted to know if the pill still works as accurately as it's suppose to even though everyday I take it at different times. Also, what are some of the best brands of the pill that are at a reasonable, affordable price? Thanks! As long as you are not taking a progestin only pill (POP) it doesn't matter if you are taking it at different times of the day. If you take it within 2 or 3 hours of the time you normally take it, you should be fine. If you ARE taking a POP, taking it any time later than normal will render it ineffective for preventing pregnancy. Since you aren't having unprotected sex, you're protected. Even if you weren't using a condom (or you were having sex if you aren't) you'd still be protected from pregnancy if your pill isn't a POP and you're taking it at different times of the day. Every pill works differently for every woman, so what is the best brand of pill for me may not be the best for you and vice versa. Talk to your gynecologist to figure out what would be the best pill for you. Also, your insurance decides how much the pill will be. A pill that has a generic will be the cheapest since you will be getting the generic, not the brand name. Something without a generic, such as the Ortho Evra patch or the Nuvaring, will be the most expensive. For best results, I suggest staying strictly on your pill schedule. Even that few hour difference could confuse your hormones enough to make you vulnerable to pregnancy. P ick a new time that is accessible every day and abstain from sex for a few weeks or so until your hormones can adjust to the new time. Try switching to a once daily pill so that you can avoid the hustle. Taking the pills on time is the most effective method of ensuring the best results. Ask your doctor if you can switch to Yasmin. Pharmacist My day usually starts off at different times every day too. I take my pill whenever I get up, and it does vary by a couple hours every day. I have been on the pill Ortho Tri Cyclin-Lo for about 3 years, and that is the only form of birth control my boyfriend and I use, and I haven't gotten pregnant. Depending on your insurance will determine how much the meds cost. I know my pills are kind of expensive because I don't get generic (last time I asked the pharmacist they said they didn't have generic yet). My pill works being taken at different times, then again its only a couple hours difference. |
