Birth control options other than the pill (opinions)? |
was on the pill for 2 years, before taking it everyday started making me nauseous and extra crampy. i've been off of them for over a year. i've been considering going back on b/c, and i am aware of other non-oral options but i'm curious as to other women's opinions of them and how they liked or didn't like them. I'm on the NuvaRing and I love it! Been on it since February. If you don't mind putting your fingers in your vagina, this is the best option. The dose is lower because it's administered intravaginally where there are lots of blood vessels. So that's a good thing! Also, you can't feel it, and you can leave it in for 4 weeks. I do, so I have a 5 week cycle. During sex, my partner usually doesn't feel it. Sometimes it overstimulates him so I take it out, but no big deal. It can be out for up to 3 hours and it's not hard to put in. Taking it out takes a good 15 seconds but that's ok. I like not having to remember to take something everyday. It lies in your vagina flat, and for me, it kind of gets suctioned up to the top wall of my vagina, so it just stays there and that's why it's out of the way during sex. It's pretty cool! You could try it and if you don't like it try something else. :) a friend of mine used nuva ring - she loved it. If you have not had any children please do not get an IUD - I thought I wanted one and my ob didn't want to give me one because I had not had any children so I told him that I would go elsewhere and get one so he gave in - it was the most pain full - miserable three weeks of my life before I finally had it taken back out and then it was another week before I stopped hurting completely ask him to use condom DONT TAKE MED GO FOR CONDOMS. I was on the depo shot for about 5 years! the best thing about that for me was no time of the month! for 5 years!! but, I gained about 10 pounds also. I liked the shot, it was very convenient for me. I couldn't afford it after awhle though! went from $15 to $65. Heard lots of bad things about that IUD so I wouldnt even suggest that to anyone! There are patches out there now, and I am sure something even newer than that. Good luck! I was on the depo shot for about a year- I never STOPPED having a period... I had a period every day for about 9 months- I also had extreme (unhealthy) weight loss and hair loss. I stopped the shot and then I got pregnant (on purpose). After I had the baby, my period started again and lasted about 6 more months. I had a laparoscopy and found out that I had severe endometriosis and that the depo may have had something to do with it. Now I'm on Lupron for 6 months... I think I may try an IUD after this- several of my friends have them and they think they are great. My other friend uses the nuva ring and says she will never use anything else... she says it is very comfortable- she does not feel it at all. The worst part is putting it in she says. |
