What type of birth control can I use instead of the pill ? |
What type of birth control can I use instead of the pill ? My sister tried the patch and it made her really sick. If you are sensitive to the hormones in oral contraceptives (pills) then there isn't much that you are going to like. If you are young, single, and have no kids I don't know a doctor alive who will give you a copper IUD. This is what I have and swear by it to the day I die...they put it in and you forget about it...don't have to think about it much for 10 years. It makes you more susceptible to infection though...so if you aren't in a manogamus relationship you run the risk of contracting STDs that will have a much worse effect on you than the average person. Norplant is hormonal and I have known about half the people who have opted for this to have had a bad experience. Depo-Provera shots are also hormonal and most people have weight gain. Mirena is a different IUD that also releases hormones. They are relatively expensive and like with copper IUDs I don't know a doctor alive who will give you one if you are single, young, no kids...I believe that the reason for this is that if a young girl who isn't in a manogamous relationship and has an IUD implanted develops PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) and doesn't realize it (which is very common) the device can actually lead to sterility and the option of having kids is out the window and the doc or the company could be sued for this reason. If you are sensitive to hormones and don't qualify for an IUD your best bet is condoms...unfortunately, but if you are single or at least not in a long term manogamus relationship then you should be using these anyway. They now have a patch that you can place on your body. My friends tell me it works great. But it does make your skin look a little funny when you take off the patch, but it goes away fast. If you are not married, it's called abstaining. condoms (female, or male) IUD Diaphragm Sponge Abstinence Periodic Abstinence Depo Provera (the shot) The Patch Nuvaring surgical sterilization nonsurgical sterilization emergency contraception www.4woman.gov/faq/birthcont.h... The Nuva Ring works well and also has fewer and less severe side effects. well there is the bar u can get in the arm, also there is the deprovera which lasts 3 months. its a needle version of the pill. also now there is a thing called the mirena and it lasts five yrs and is reversable at any time. it stops periods and stops u from falling pregnant. to find more about it go to http://www.mirena-us.com/index.html... you will find all ur answers there |
