Birth control:the pill question? Help please?

I have an amazing bf and i think im ready for sex, i know that you are suppose to go on the pill at least a month before your first time so i want to start looking into my options, What is the pill? How often do you have to take it? Any side effects? My main issue is how big is the pill because i have serious difficulties swallowing tablets sometimes i am unable to, what do i do about this? How do i get the pill? Any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Great boyfriends will wait and the more that they love you the longer they would wait. But in saying that yes you would have to wait a month or a bit longer for the pill to start working and be effective.

You would have to take them regular or they won't be effective and they are tiny like saccharine sugar pills

you get the pill from the doctor or the clinic

you would have to come off the pill at least a year if you wanted to have children.

They regulate your periods and you can count on them to regulate the only 250 eggs that you have or minus the ones that have already been gone while you haven't been taking the pill.

The doctor can change them if your periods show up while you are taking them in fact any time that you have any of the side effects because remember they are lab made and not natural.

Be careful to watch your iron levels mine went down and I lost a lot of hair by the thining of it. Growing back now that I am off the pill but it has taken a number of years
they are tiny and very easy to swallow.
you may also consider the depo shot or an iud like mirena.
talk to your doctor about what's right for you.
You get it by talking to your doctor (it's a prescription), who should be able to answer all your questions for you as well :)

You need a doctor鈥檚 prescription to get birth control pills, also called oral contraceptives. There are two types of birth control pills: 鈥渃ombined oral contraceptives鈥?and鈥渕inipills.鈥?br />
Combined oral contraceptives have a combination of two hormones鈥攅strogen and progestin. They work by keeping the ovaries from releasing an egg. The pill must be taken every day.

Minipills contain only one hormone, progestin. They work by thickening the cervical mucus to keep sperm from reaching the egg.

Sometimes they also keep the ovaries from releasing an egg. You must take one pill every day. Minipills are slightly less effective than combined oral contraceptives.

Congratulations in being pro-active in your birth control needs!

Most birth control pills are very small -- at the site below, you'll be able to see and example of one. And I've also shared some information on the pill:

There are many many different types of pills with different levels and types of hormones. You should do some research into one that you might want to try (I'm on Loestrin 24 and I love it - much shorter, lighter periods since I started it and no side effects). Ortho Tricyclen is another really popular one, I think.
For most pills, you take it daily (needs to be at the same time everyday to be the most effective). Side effects depend on the pill and the woman, but can include mood swings, weight gain, nausea, headaches and lots of other things. Most pills are very very small - I don't like taking pills without a drink, but I can take mine dry if I have to. You'll have to go to your GYN to get on the pill - even if you've been there in the last year for your Pap smear, you'll still have to go in so that they can answer any questions and make sure you know what you're getting into.
The pill does NOT prevent you from getting STDs!! Used properly, you have an almost zero chance of getting pregnant.
Oh - and I forgot to mention that if you start taking the pill the first day of your period, after 7 days, you don't have to use another method of protection. If you do the Sunday start (starting the pill on the first Sunday after your period started), then you'll have to use another method of protection for the first month - or not have sex.
The pill consists of estrogen and progesterone which stops ovulation and makes your body think it's pregnant. It will also regulate your periods; making them come every month on schedule.
The pill is small and easy to take. You have to take it every day at the same time in order to protect yourself against pregnancy.
Side effects are minor and temporary. They go away after six months of taking the pill. Nausea can be eliminated by taking the pill with milk.

The pill does not protect you from STDs. It would be best to also use condoms because guys can lie about their history and some don't know they have anything. Better to be safe, than catch something.

You get the pill from a Gynecologist or from a Gyn at a women's health clinic. You can only get them by prescription. There are many different brands of the pill out there and they come in two strengths of estrogen: high-dose and low-dose. The 28-day packs are most commonly prescribed. The doctor may try you on different brands - depending on how the pill works with your body. During your first year, you have to see the Gyn every six months for checkups to see how you're doing on it and you'll get a new script for another six months supply.
After a year, you go for checkups once a year and get a year's supply of pills each time.
