Can I take Milk thisle with celexa, adderall, and birth control pills? |
I take milk thistle to protect my liver from all the meds I take(above).I'm aware this could cause a bad interaction. If I make it a point to take the MT 12 hours away from when I take my BC pill, can I avoid the milk thistle lessening the effects of the BC?Also,I read,"In vitro studies using human liver microsomes indicated that CYP3A4 and CYP2C19 are the primary isozymes involved in the N-demethylation of citalopram".I also read that this would mean taking Milk Thistle with celexa would create higher levels of the drug staying in my system for longer periods of time because MT is metabolized by the same exzyme. Can't get an answer from my doctor or pharmacist that isn't biased. So,does anyone know if this is something serious to worry about. If I take the milk thistle a few hours away from celexa and adderall can I avoid this problem? Also, can anyone recommend another herb or supplement that cleanses and protects the liver, yet does not interact with so many meds? Thanks for any advice I would call your local pharmacy and ask to speak with a pharmacist so he/she can advise you on any drug interactions the 4 may contain Source(s): Walgreens Pharmacy Tech The whole point of milk thistle is that it helps metabolise the gunk in your liver. It's going to effect the time stuff remains in your system. You could always get rid of the birth control pill and tell the man in your life to take a turn at contraception, while you're taking so many other drugs. |
