I stopped taking birth control pills and my mood is awesome.. but I think I should be on the pill?

I have taken birth control pills since I was 18 (I'm 24 now). I've been severely depressed and had severe anxiety. I also suffered from chronic yeast infections since I've been on the pill. I just graduated college and have no health insurance, so I stopped taking the pill. My mood has improved so much. It's amazing!!! I'm also having less problems with yeast... but I have worse cramps and I hate not knowing when I'm going to get my period. Not to mention I don't want to get pregnant even though I'll use condoms. Should I just go back on it and be miserable mentally, or should I stay off it and never know when I'll get my period and have horrible cramps?? I never consulted a doctor first since I had no insurance. And the free clinic here SUCKS.

Going to the ob-gyn is NEVER fun, no matter if it be PP or your regular doc!

If you have noticed depression and now no depression, you need to talk to a doctor about that.

I'm 32 and also have had periods of being on anti-depressants and the Pill at the same time. I didn't have any drug interactions, but that is something you'll need to discuss with your doctor.

I'm only on the Pill right now to prevent ovarian cysts from forming. Otherwise I'd just be using condoms! Every woman has to make her own decision. And if its just the cramps and not knowing when you'll get your period, keep a calendar in your bathroom and chart your cycle! And for the cramps, the best way to ward those off is to drink plenty of water and eat a banana a day. The extra potassium naturally will alleviate muscle cramps!

*I am not a doctor, but I'm a woman who has gone through the same stuff you have....
You need to talk to a doc as there are so many different kinds of birth control out there. Just because one didn't work for you (as you now realize) doesn't mean they will all have the same effect on you. See a doc and discuss all of this with him/her.
Find your nearest planned parenthood as soon as possible. The offer very low cost services for women. There they can give you options for birth control that will work best for you. You can also check their website where they have a ton of information.
Yea, hopefully I won't get spammed for this...last time I gave a woman this advice they kicked me off. DON"T know why. but I do the natural family planning. I'm not some fat, hairy underarmed cave woman, lol I was on BC for 2 years after my twins were born (NOT planned!) I too had health problems with the bc. I gave the family method a try...and yea, the first couple of months was hard to plan, etx. But now, I know my body SO well, I know down to the hour when my period will start, I know when I ovulate, and when to have unprotected sex (just one partner, so no std prob) Anyway, if you are interested I'll give you the link as to not make anyone angry like I'm spamming. I mean c;mon what am I going to make $100 for every woman getting off BC lol Good luck though...it's scary to think of using anything besides bc...but trust me if someone doesn't want to be pregnant again IT"S ME! lol
You may want to try a progestin-only type of birth control, like Micronor (pill) or Depo-Provera (injection, which should take away your periods -- and cramps -- for as long as you're on it). The typical birth control pill contains both progestins and estrogens, and it's possible that your side effects are from the estrogen components.
Every woman is different (that's why there are dozens of hormone contraceptives), so there's no guarantee that this will be the best choice for you. Still, see a doctor and ask about it.
I'm a doctor
