If you miss birth control pills how protected are you?


If you miss several birth control pills are you really at risk of getting pregnant? I have been on yasmin for 2 years and I had to discontinue pack and restart new pack the following sunday which caused me to miss 6 active pills. I know the pack tells me to use protection for the 7 days of nonuse of pills but what is the real risk of getting pregnant? Highly likely, possibly, not at all?? I did have sex day 6 and 7 of missed pills and day 12. Did I conceive?? Great if I did.

The odds are about 20% same as a woman not using birth control.

Please go and read the patient information AGAIN because you are NOT following the directions, the directions say:

"If you MISS 3 OR MORE yellow 鈥渁ctive鈥?pills in a row (during the first 3 weeks).
1. If you are a Day 1 Starter:
THROW OUT the rest of the pill pack and start a new pack that same day.
If you are a Sunday Starter:
Keep taking 1 pill every day until Sunday. On Sunday, THROW OUT the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day.
You MAY BECOME PREGNANT if you have sex in the 7 days after you miss pills. You MUST use another birth control method (such as condoms or spermicides) as a back-up for those 7 days."

So you should have kept taking pills from the original pack until Sunday THEN started a new pack. Then you would have only had 7 days after your missed pills that you would have been at risk of getting pregnant. Instead of 13 days.
I had a similar situation....I now have a 10 year old daughter. Use a condom if you don't want a baby.
Doesnt always work the same for every one.. i was on the pill and didnt miss a day and i concieved.. Go figure!
Your taking a chance and if you don't want a baby right now the risk is just to much. Don't do it. Having a baby is a big responsibility.
you not allowed to miss any pills and still be considered fully protected. The pills are meant to be taken daily. if you are trying to conceive, put the stinking pills down
not fully protected i think you should take two the next day on the scheduled time
Hello Jennie85, I would like to tell you it is VERY likely to get pregnant! Anytime you miss your pills for any amount of time. Of course you can get honey! If you ever have to miss your pills again you can use a condem. If this person is not your boyfriend and you just date then I would use a condem and the pills to get the full protection of AIDS or HIV or VD.
