What happens during a blood donation? |
do they like weigh you or take your height or anything? I've never been weighed; they just ask a few simple questions, have you sign something and then you lie down and they put a needle in your vein much like an IV and they take about a pint of blood over a course of 20 minutes give or take. When you're done they take the needle out and encourage you to stand up slowly so you don't faint... No weight or height. No they do not weigh you and ask your height but here is a little information on what to expect.Discomfort wise on a scale of 1 - 10, I would give it a 2. I have given blood often because it makes me feel like I'm doing something to help save someones life. Its not the funnest thing I've done and I never look forward to it but I just keep telling myself it is a good thing. When you do go.....dont look at the needle....its not like getting a blood test its like a metal coffee stirrer with a point, when putting the needle in its like a med. ouch and then the pain is gone and it doesnt hurt when they pull out the needle. The process here from the time you walk in, answer their questions, test your blood to see if your anemic and then draw your blood its about 30 minutes. My blood is thick which often takes longer, once a nurse there told me the day before to take a baby asprin, it thins the blood alittle to help the blood to flow faster. If it is your first time, you will be ASKED your weight, but they will NOT weigh you unless you request it. You will be asked to answer a MILLION Questions!!! ha... seems like that. They will take your temperature, and blood pressure. Once you have passed all the questions, and vitals, they have you lay on a reclining chair, , again ask questions, then prep your arm, and stick ... well I will leave the rest for your imagination... |
