Failed attempt at blood donation, is my arm ok? |
The nurse stuck the needle in, and when no blood came one, she probed it around a couple times. Ouch. I've never donated before, so is my vein going to be ok to use again for blood donation? This has happen to me before. To make it easier for you the next time you need to relax more. Slow deep breaths when told you will feel a stick. It does help the needle go in better. You might have been dehydrated. You'll probably have a bruise for a few days, but the vein will heal and you'll be able to donate blood later. Yes, you'll be fine. If it hurts and it's bothering you, put a little ice on it -- 5 minutes on, 5 minutes off. It'll be fine. Yes, veins can be hard to get into, they can wiggle or move away from a needle once it is introduced, thus the probing to catch it. You may have a small bruise or tenderness but other wise, your vein will recover quickly. This experience will not hinder you from donating blood in the future. Donating blood is one of the single most important things a person can do to help others. You don't realize it, but you are saving a life every time you donate. This has happened to me. Wait two weeks and you should be able to try again. When you arrive ask for their best technition. |
