Cord Blood Donation Question?

Are there any agencies that allow you to donate cord blood to a specific person? I know you can donate blood to a specific person for free, in the case of a surgery or something that you know may require blood. Cord Blood banking is so expensive, but if its DONATED to a person who may need it, are there any ways to get a break on cost? Please only answer this question if you have experience with this or a good resource. I already looked at a bunch of websites and none say anything about donating to an individual person. Thanks to all.

Well, I believe you can but it is a long process because they do the crossmatching tests to see if there is a compatibility (it is not an ordinary blood donation anyway)

If you know someone who is about to go through stem cell transplant, then yes, you can donate directly to them, IF the cord blood stem cells are a close enough HLA tissue type match to the person you are donating to. Cord blood doesnt have to be as close of a match as adult stem cells, but they do have to somewhat match.
You would need to talk to the person's doctor, preferably their hematologist to get any specifics, as the general proceedure is to donate to the public cord blood banks in the Marrow Registry. You need the hematologist because that is the doc that will be over seeing the transplant.

EDIT: I think I may have misunderstood what you are asking about. Are you asking about for a blood transfusion? That I am aware of, cord blood is not used in blood transfusions, and even if it were, it is less than a full unit of blood. It would not really be of any benefit to try to donate the cord blood for a blood transfusion.
