Blood donations after Africa trip?

I lived in Madagascar for a semester last fall. While over there, I got Malaria. Can I still donate blood? Also, can my boyfriend, who I am sexually active with, still donate?

I used to live in Africa and have malaria too.
technically, you can donate. as long as you do not have any "plasmodium" in your blood stream (so when you do not have an attack), you can donate.
Having said that, I have been able to donate many times, always mentioning to the medic that I was from Africa AND had malaria before and it is usually not a problem. once, some .... mentaly challenged nurse verbally kicked me out of the blood bank accusing me of being a "murderer"! (I still remember her saying these words!) but that was only once! and I still donated often (blood as well as white cells) after that, still always being upfront with the medics.

note that in Canada, they will not take your blood if you spend more than 6 month in Europe (France, UK, NL) in late 80's and early 90's!

So the best is to just be up front and ask the staff. not all of them are ... mentally challenged!

I believe that people who donate have to fill out a form before donating blood that covers these issues. I suspect that the answer is no, for you, at least.

I think is better don't donate the blood, at least for 1 year or 2. In this year you check your CFR or Rubiclobina
