I heard on a ad asking for blood donations that giving blood is good for your health. Why?

The ad said it it does good things for your cardio system. What is it and why would it be beneficial.

Sounds like propaganda for the blood donation people...the only good thing about blood donations is the good that can come from sick people benefiting from your blood and only if it is healthy blood. Also storing your own blood for future use is always a good idea, hopefully you will never need it.

I know I'm making this up completely, but I've always thought that maybe it's good that they take a pint now and then because as the missing pint refills itself over the next hours, it's nice fresh new blood and will make me more energetic. I kind of believe that! It's not a million miles removed from the old medical theory about leeches and bleeding - that you take out bad blood and it gets replaced with nice fresh blood.
Anyway, I do know you get time off work, plus free tea and biscuits, if you give blood, and that's good enough for me! I'd have been down the donor centre by now this year except I've had a bad cold and they don't accept you if you have a cold.

Im not sure if it is completely true. The only thing i can think of is that when you give blood your body has to make new blood so that could be healthy. Im not sure if new blood going through your system makes a difference but it could.
