Scared of blood donation? |
im 16 AND SCARED OF NEEDLES There is no reason to be scared of getting your blood tested. They are only checking for AIDS and hepatitis and drugs. If you aren't having unprotected sex or doing drugs, you don't need to worry about that. Needles only hurt for a minute. Time to stop being a baby. Needles only hurt for a moment. Then it is over. Millions of people give blood. It is really not a big deal. Worst case, if you don't eat something before you get it done you feel like you will faint and they'll give you juice and a cookie. Nothing to be scared of. So it is time in your life to stop being a child and begin to be an adult. Lots of things in your lifetime will hurt you far more than a little poke from a needle. It isn't agony for God's sake, just a sting. You'll live. Now all that said, and I gave you a hard time, I am proud of you for scheduling it and making yourself go through it. Just don't build up some big drama behind it. There is no drama. Think ONLY that you WILL save a life with the blood you give. How does that make you feel? Isn't it worth some stinging in your arm to know for a certainty that your blood will give someone at least one more day of life? It should. when i was in school i donated too..i was scared out of my mind..but like you..i too knew it was for a good cause..just think of it that way..with each blood donation up to three lives are saved..THREE LIVES! thats such an amazing gift...i think what you are doing is great! its ok to be nervous..but i promise you it turns out being not so bad..i donate plasma now all of the time..so after this first time you wont be so scared anymore because honestly it doesnt even hurt..i think plucking my eyebrows hurts worse!...one tip..eat a good..large! breakfast in the morning..it will help your stomach..also..dont be afraid of thinking you have a disease..the dont test it right there infront you of..it has to go to a lab first..im sure you will be just fine..so good luck! they'll tell you if there is anything wrong with your blood before they take it from you, and it's good to know. its scarier not knowing. as for the fear of needles, nothing bad is going to happen to you at all. just think of what good you are doing, and there will be nothing to fear. well if you find that you are sick thats a good thing that you catch it early. You can fix it fast. Now about the needles part, just shut your eyes and it'll be over fast. Giving blood is a very noble thing to do. You should go in and try, at least see what it is all about. Even, in the end, you can't do it, then that is ok, at least you tried. I've given gallons over the past 15 years, and it really is no big deal. It isn't painful and doesn't take long. The reward is that you are literally helping to save lives. |
